Customer Service | Top Wedding Invitation Trends

Below is a list of some current and upcomming wedding invitation trends:

Bold Colors - it seems that couples are less conservative these days. They aren’t afraid to express their personalities and an easy way to do this is with great use of colour. Muted tones are of the past and eye-popping colour is becoming more popular. Gone are the traditional pastel pinks, purples and pale creams and instead couples are opting for deep shades of fuschia, eggplant and oranges (to name a few). A colourful invitation really sets the tone and immediately gives that WOW factor. That is what brides are seeking….they want to get people excited about this special day!

Incorporate the Seasons – a seasonal wedding theme is becoming more and more popular these days. Brides are letting the season be the main inspiration for their big day. Incorporating the season does not mean being tacky and can be very classy and chic if done properly. For example, brides are incorporating fall colours into their weddings and these colours are first introduced with their invitation. Simplified motifs and imagery are another trend. Having a winter wedding doesn’t mean everything has to be peppered in snowflakes. Subtle hints of “themed” imagery and designs, paired with a beautiful colour palette can really make a statement without being too gimmicky.

Simplified yet Bold – invitations are incorporating straight clean lines and thick, simplified borders into their designs. Brides are going less fancy and more modern. A popular trend that you will see more and more is thick, chunky borders or graphic bands with a pop of colour. Less is more, and these clean designs are really eye catching.

Unique Fonts - Experimenting with different fonts is a big trend this year. Instead of a boring traditional font, couples are choosing more modern and contemporary fonts, and are being more daring by incorporating two very different fonts into their invitations. By using a more interesting script font for their names in a larger size so they stand out from the details of the wedding which may be in a cleaner, capitalized font you achieve a very dynamic design with the fonts alone. The most important thing is to select a font that will reflect your wedding style and personality. The only rule we stress you follow is only use 1 or 2 different fonts max.

Going Graphic -Today’s trends mix up different design elements on your card, such as bright polka dots, toile, stripes, or geometric patterns (just not all at once). The new trend is taking a graphic such as circles or dots and using it as a theme throughout all of your print items. So your invitations, placecards, menu cards and wedding programs would all have the same graphic element carried throughout, but in different scales. The point is to stick with one universal design element whether it be the color, the pattern or the position of the graphic. It really ties your wedding theme together and guests will notice your attention to detail!

Personalized Monograms- Entwine both of your first initials or names in a beautiful, artistic way as a design accent to your invitations, and carry that monogram to your reply cards or menus etc. Monograms are a top trend right now, with more couples looking to create a custom design to match their one-of-a-kind relationship. At Invitation Expressions, we offer several monogram layouts to choose from and several different fonts to use with your monogram so you will be sure to find something to suit your theme and personal style.
